"The Music Man" is a musical written by Meredith Willson, with a book by Willson and Franklin Lacey. It premiered on Broadway in 1957 and won five Tony Awards, including the award for Best Musical. The story is set in 1912 and follows the journey of a con man named Harold Hill, who poses as a band leader and sells instruments and uniforms to the people of River City, Iowa, promising to teach them how to play music. In reality, he has no intention of teaching them and plans to skip town with their money. However, he falls in love with a librarian named Marian and his plans change. The show is known for its upbeat and catchy songs, including "76 Trombones" and "Till There Was You." It has since been adapted into a successful film and has been revived numerous times on stage.
